KATZ COACHES USA MASTERS AT MASTERS AT MACCABIAH GAMES Reported in Dr. Jane Katz (pictured with Jason Lezak) led Masters swimmers from the United States at the 18th Maccabiah Games in Israel this past July. Her teammates included fellow USMS members Joan Kripke, 56, Barbara Rosenbaum, 67, Ellen Itzler, 50, Joan Waldbaum, 78, Richard Benson, 57, Gil Ines, 42, David paris, 49, and Burt Zweigenhaft, 57. Team members medaled in both individual and relay races at the quadrennial event. U.S. relay swimmers consistently took silver behind the israeli home team. Katz, 66, a 1964 member of the US Olympic performance team, took time to hang out with Beijing Olympic freestyle relay hero, Jason Lezak, who skipped Worlds in Rome to swim in the Maccabiah Games. Both participated in the opening ceremonies, with Lezak lighting the torch and Katz showcasing a synchro routine. "The fun and spirit with the Masters participants from 13 other countries was fantastic," says Katz, a member of Asphalt Green Masters.
